Velo Memorabilia

As a participant in the California Eroica and the Eroica Gaiole, Italophile Ron Miriello has been a collector Italian memorable and cycling treasures. Vintage steel Italian bicycles, Campagnolo parts, Detto Pietro shoes, Cinelli bars, Tre Eme wool jerseys with great typography are welcome and revered as part of the Miriello Velo Memorablia.

Collecting doesn’t benefit much from over-analysis. There’s usually a reason why one is attracted to the odd and unexplained. And it’s often a reason best left undisturbed and unchallenged. Freedom is not having to explain an affliction.

I like the odd and unexplained object that is the start of a story, a project, an inquiry. A perfectly balanced shape that still shines through, decades after the maker has closed up shop. I’ve managed to amass a tidy group of pieces and parts that individually and collectively seem to have some thing significant to tell us about style, balance and crafts-as-art and about riding fast down a hill. Ron Miriello maintains a collection of over 60 Italian steel classic bicycles he has imported to California from Italy and personally rebuilt to original condition. Many are signed by the original artisan makers, those that are still alive.
